Birth preparation class

Today I went to my birth preparation class at the hospital with John's sister, Vilayvanh. She'll be one of my labor coaches! The class went from 9:30am to about 3:30pm and was very interactive.

We practiced various relaxation and breathing techniques and some exercises. We had a tour of the Family Birthplace and saw the antepartum, labor & delivery room and the postpartum rooms. We learned about pain management options offered, the labor stages and watched many labor-related videos.

I thought it was very worthwhile and I came home with a book and lots of papers to review. I have a better idea of how I want to set up my birth plan now. Though, I realize that may go right out the window once I get to the hospital!

  1. Sounds like you had a good experience, and I'm glad you'll have John's sister with you in delivery. Having a calm, supportive woman in there with you is great. Poor Matt was so traumatized by the labor videos in our birth class he was happy that I went into labor before the last class session so he didn't have to watch any more! Your birth center sounds great!

  2. I have gotten very behind on blog reading - three new posts since I last looked. I'm so glad everything is progressing as planned and that you are making plans for the birth. Its always good to have a plan - and to be ready to be flexible. The shower looked fun - too bad I missed it. Love, Emily
